More than a thousand military personnel from various NATO countries participated in the Bold Panzer exercise, held in northeastern Estonia.
The two-week training focused on high-intensity operations to assess the readiness of forces stationed on the Alliance’s Eastern Flank in response to potential threats. The activity is part of NATO’s ongoing multinational battle group operations, prepared to respond immediately to any aggression.
Led by the Royal Tank Regiment from the United Kingdom, the exercise brought together troops and equipment from France, Poland, Slovenia, Estonia, and Latvia. The scenario, based on a fictional enemy, simulated the complex conditions of modern conflict, involving British Challenger 2 tanks, Polish Leopard 2 tanks, French infantry, Slovenian anti-tank teams, and Warrior armored vehicles. Recent regional tensions, including Russian air incursions and drones, also served as a warning to reinforce the sense of urgency among the troops.
The maneuvers took place in open areas favorable for heavy armored operations. According to NATO, the exercise confirmed that, in a crisis, the Estonian battle group will act alongside national forces to hold strategic positions until allied reinforcements arrive, reinforcing the collective response capability outlined in Article 5.
